What is Ride for Refuge?
The Ride for Refuge is the umbrella name for a fund raising program that benefits several charities. One of the charities that participates in the program is AURA – The Anglican-United Refugee Alliance.
Why Support AURA?
AURA is the agency that coordinates every refugee sponsorship in the Diocese of Toronto and many other community sponsorships. As you can imagine the amount of work associated with every refugee case is huge. We need a team of experienced professionals to navigate the immigration system and enable parishes to bring refugees and their families to Canada.
What are the benefits of participating?
First of all – you are supporting AURA and helping ensure that when groups want to sponsor refugees, AURA will be ready and waiting to help.
Secondly –and more importantly - you are helping the refugees themselves. Most refugees cannot get to Canada without the assistance of Private Sponsors such as churches, so AURA expands the number of refugees that can come to Canada each year.
Thirdly – this will be a fun activity early in the new school year gives your group something tangible to rally behind.
How do participants sign up?
You get to be creative on how you want to raise money. You can do anything from a bike ride or walk to pretty well anything you can imagine. Last year the Anglican Primate, Linda Nicholls, raised money by singing hymns! You can do any activity that you love and turn it into a fundraiser for AURA!
